The importance of safety in a work place has been highlighted.
Director Admin and Human Resources, Sir Kelechi Nwelue who made the emphasis during safety awareness programme for staff of Niger Delta Development Commission NDDC, at the headquarters in port Harcourt Rivers State, advised them to be safety conscious at all times.
Sir Nwelue told staff that management was concerned about their safety, both at home and workplace.
While taking staff through safety procedures, a facilitator from Workplace Association of Nigeria, Mr. Felix Nlerum insisted that safety starts with individuals.
Mr. Nlerum who stressed on close observations before taking actions, said it was necessary to have regular safety briefs especially concerning emergency situations.
The facilitator explained that the direction of door opening was very important in emergency situations, saying that opening the exit door inwards could cause a stampede, hence the need to make it clear to all concerned .
He stated that accident prevention was very important and should be taken seriously.
